#FactOfTheDay 13/03/2018: Time to discuss women’s rights for the European Parliament

This article follows the last #FactOfheDay written by Jean-Hugues Migeon.

During the plenary session of the European Parliament this week (from 12 to 15 March 2018), several topics will refer to women’s rights.

First of all, Antonio Tajani, incumbent president of the European Parliament, receives a petition from MEP Terry Reintke (Greens-EFAs). The petition was signed by more than 129 500 European citizens and is against sexual discrimination and harassment inside this institution. The petition echoes multiple anonymous denunciations of MEP’s assistants collected by POLITICO EU.

Furthermore, the European Parliament’s report on gender equality in EU trade agreements was discussed yesterday – 12 March. This Report was written by Eleonora Forenza (GUE/NGL) and Malin Bjork (GUE/NGL).

Finally, the European Parliament led a debate in a way to ratify the Istanbul Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence.

With the new atmosphere in favour of understanding women’s rights issues, the European Parliament has a chance to improve its image.
