Pipe bombs were sent to a number of prominent Democrats, including former US President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, sparking an intense investigation into whether a bomber is going after people who have often been members of right-wing ire. CNN received a similar bomb, addressed to Mr. Obama’s C.I.A. director John Brennan, touching off a mass evacuation of the Time Warner Center in Midtown Manhattan, where the network is located.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said:  “This clearly is an act of terror attempting to undermine our free press and leaders of this country through acts of violence”. President Donald Trump said: “The full weight of our government is being deployed to conduct this investigation, we’re extremely angry, upset, unhappy about what we witnessed this morning and we will get to the bottom of it, the safety of the American people is my highest and absolute priority”.
